City BKK

The City BKK was a German company health insurance fund, which was closed in 2011 as the first insolvent fund since the health fund was founded. It was founded in 2004 by BKK Hamburg and BKK Berlin. A special feature of City BKK was the additional income-independent contribution of 15 euros, which was introduced in 2010 and increased in 2011. This was followed by many terminations of insured persons, especially young - rather healthy - people left at that time, which led to certain losses at City BKK.

In a first ruling by the Berlin Social Court in June 2011, this additional contribution was also declared null and void. This was finally confirmed in summer 2012 by the Federal Social Court by refusing to approve the revision procedure.
